The Super Mario Bros. Movie is off to a Super Star-powered start, and Universal is estimating that the Mario movie will make $141 million by the end of its extended opening weekend on Sunday.
According to Universal, The Super Mario Bros. Movie earned $31.7 million in North America on Wednesday. Globally, the movie raked in $66.4 million on opening day. Movies usually open on Friday, meaning The Super Mario Bros. Movie has a two-day head start in comparison to other opening weekends. For Friday through Sunday alone, the movie is estimated to bring in $92 million.
Analysts say The Super Mario Bros. Movie overtook Avatar: The Way of Water and Doctor Strange 2 as the biggest opening day since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. It's also the second-best April opening day ever, only trailing Avengers: Endgame. The Super Mario Bros. Movie saw the top animated opening day ever in 11 markets across the globe.
